Bengal Cat Health Problem
Bengal cats are the ones that are bred from the leopards of Asian countries. Asian leopards were in endangered species list not long ago. The scientific name of the Asian leopards is felis bengalensis. The origin of the name, the Bengal cat must be the scientific name of the Asian leopards. The Bengal cats are certainly not tigers by any chance but like their ancestors Asian leopards, Bengal cats also love water. Let us discuss about the Bengal cat health problems here.
The Bengal cats are more or less like dog than cat. These cats are very friendly, confident and are outgoing. These cats don`t prefer to be aloof. These cats just love to play in the water. These Bengal cats are intelligent animals. These cats will use their paws as hands more often than not. These feline have the ability to keep their toys hidden in their chest to hide the toy from the other pet animals. These Bengal cats can claim even the tall trees with ease.
Food poisoning -one the common Bengal cat health problem
These Bengal cats are highly susceptible to food poisoning. The food that is contaminated with pathogens like bacteria and fungus is highly dangerous to these cats. The severity of the food poisoning depends on the quantity of the bacterial toxin produced in the rotten food.
The affected cats will have gastro intestinal upset. The clinical signs of the food poisoning can be diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and weakness. In very severe food poisoning the cat may die instantly due to shock caused by the bacterial toxin.
In case one suspects the cats for food poisoning, he must take the animal to the vet clinic as early as possible. There stomach washes and IV fluids will be attempted to reduce the severity of the bacterial toxin. The cat will be put on supportive therapy till it recovers and takes food on its own.
Chocolates - do cause Bengal cat health problems
Chocolates should never be given to dogs that are for sure. But incase of cats, it is not so.
The chocolate that is rich in caffeine and obromine are toxic to Bengal cats. Generaly the adult Bengal cats don`t prefer chocolates. But some young ones may try to taste it and may consume more because of the different taste. This is certainly harmful to the cats.
The cat may have vomiting, hyperactivity, excessive urination, seizures, excessive breathing, weakness etc. at times sudden death is also possible because of the adverse methylxanthines action.
It is better to be careful during the festive season such as Easter, Christmas; new-year etc. because only during those seasons the chocolates of different types will be found in the houses and are exposed to the pet Bengal cats. It is better to rush the animal to the vet clinic but one should make a note of the name of the chocolate consumed and quantity of the chocolate consumed. This will help the veterinarian to arrive at the required treatment without wasting much time and to save the Bengal cat from this kind of health problem.
