Cats are lovely animals and can be though as pet. In western countries more and more people are going for keeping the cat as pet animal. These animals are timid, calf, seldom turn ferocious and love the owners as much they love these animals. These cats can live longer if proper veterinary care and nutrition is provided to them. As discussed feline health as it becomes older is a problem. Old age brings with it number of changes in the body of the cat. The old cats are generally less active. As the result the muscle tone reduces thus making running, climbing and jumping becomes difficult for them. The health problem of older cat gets worse as they eat very less than required because the sense of taste and smell deteriorates with the age. In addition to this the older cats will have teeth problem, reduced bowel function, constipation, weight loss etc. The older cats are more susceptible for dehydration as they will drink only less water because of decreased thirstiness. In case the older cats have kidney problem then dehydration may kill the cat.

Cat health needs protection from older age problems. The best think is to subject the old cats to regular health checkups. There are many geriatric veterinary clinics that take care of the senior cat health which conduct the clinical examination of the old cats in order to improve their health. These clinics will test the liver, kidney, thyroid and other vital organs function. These clinics do check the blood pressure, white blood cell count and red blood cell count etc.
Feeding of older cat
Feeding plays important role in preventing the deterioration in cat health because of older age problems. The tinned food with more water content is the best as the old cat drinks less water. The water must be provided in plenty to these old cats. Providing a litter tray helps as the old cats will lose the control over the bowel and bladder movement. The diet that is less in protein and phosphorous must be given to the older cats as the kidney problems are one of the common elderly cat health problem. The older cats must be shown more love and affection, after all they deserve it.
