Common Cat Eye Health Problems
Cat eye health is very important for the very survival and the basic health of the cat. If the cat eye health is in trouble, then the cat cannot eat properly, drink properly, and walk properly etc which makes the survival difficult for the cat. Cat eye health can be easily found out by the look of the eye. If the eye of the cat is clear and bright and the area of the eye around the eye ball is white, then the cat eye health is perfect.
There are certain common signs which spell doom over the cat eye health. They are redness of the inner eyelids, presence of cloudiness within the eye ball, dullness of the eye surface, excessive discharges from the eye, unusual discharges from the eye, presence of tear strain fur near the eye, crossing of the third eyelid etc.
There are so many tests are there that can find out the condition of the eye. These tests are of immense help in cat eye health care. They are fluorescein stain test [to detect the corneal ulcers], schirmer tear test [find out the tear production level], ocular pressure test [to detect glaucoma], and ophthalmoscope test [used to test the chamber of the eye].
Conjunctivitis
This is one of the common cat eye health problems. This is nothing but the inflammatory condition of the membrane that covers the white of the eye and the eyelids inner lining. Conjunctivitis can be due to the bacterial, viral or fungal infection. But in most cases the conjunctivitis is due to herpes viral infection. This herpes viral causes conjunctivitis in human beings also. As this infection is highly contagious, the cats must be treated at once. The drug of choice for conjunctivitis is terrifying ophthalmic ointment.
Corneal ulcers are the other common condition noticed in cats. These corneal ulcers develop when the corneal surface is damaged because of cat fight or bacterial or viral infection. Watery eyes are also common cat eye health problem. This condition can be noticed with naked eye. The cat will be weeping continuously. As the result the fur around the eye will be wet always. The continuous weeping can be because of malformation of the tear ducts.
Glaucoma and cataract
Glaucoma and cataract are also very common cat eye health problems. The glaucoma is due to the excess pressure exerted from the interior of the eye. As far as the cataract is concerned, it affects the diabetic and older cats. For cataract the surgery is the only answer.
